Our Organ

The Church was consecrated in April 1871 (the cost being £2600)and a modest two manual (keyboard) pipe organ by Brindley and Foster was acquired in 1874. Reference is made in the Church records to a new organ being built towards the end of 1887. The cost was £400. The organ was originally placed behind the altar (approximately where the large cross is now). There are photos of the organ in this position stored in the Local Studies Room in Croydon Library. The organ was consecrated in August 1888 and remained behind the altar until 1906 when it was moved to its present position.

At around the same time the organ was extended by Noterman's of Shepherds Bush. New notes were added and also an extra manual. A service of celebration for the dedication of the organ was held on 27 June 1912. The order of service records that the organ now contained 1768 pipes and was fitted with a pneumatic action.
